Teller Management System Redesign

Modernizing a legacy banking platform

Context

The client, a mid-sized bank, used an outdated Teller Management System with a cluttered interface and confusing navigation, requiring heavy training for basic tasks.

The redesign focused on modernizing the system, improving transaction speed, and making it intuitive for tellers and managers.

Role and Team

I was the Product Designer on a small cross-functional team of three. I handled UX research, information architecture, wireframes, visual design, and prototyping.

We started with initial user flows for both tellers and managers, which were refined over time as we gathered insights from user interviews.

Key Findings

  • Interviews with tellers and managers
  • Observed workflows and bottlenecks
  • Compared approval and transaction processes

These insights shaped the core design goals:

Simplify navigation, support multi-currency operations, and reduce cognitive load during transactions.

Design & Solution:

  • Added a clean left sidebar for quick access to key functions.
  • Displayed real-time currency balances on every screen.
  • Introduced approval workflows for large transactions.
  • Integrated “Start Day” and “Close Till” for shift management.
  • Supported multiple currencies with clear visual cues.

Usability Testing

  • Shared prototype with client across sessions
  • Removed unnecessary denomination feature
  • Added “Waive Fee” button
  • Improved spacing and visual hierarchy
